Her upbringing instilled in her the belief that “to whom much is given, much is required”, which drives her commitment to helping others. However, she emphasized that the need for local funding is higher than ever to keep helping people find fresh starts with dignity and compassion. Grants are earmarked for specific things, but donations allow them to pay their staff to provide services and purchase food and other necessities for their guests. North Jersey Friendship House was established in 1964 by the Teaneck Chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women. Friendship House began as a storefront operation staffed by dedicated volunteers and continues to serve individuals with varying abilities.

We believe that traditional medicine passed down from our ancestors, paired with the latest in modern medicine, is important for long-term recovery. From ceremony to medication-assisted treatment, we offer a variety of tools in our treatment programs. As a sober woman with over 21 years of sobriety I feel it is my responsibility to give back to the community.

In March of 1951, Friendly House was born

The organization is solely supported by private donations and grants, by the fundraising efforts of the Board of Directors, Grateful Hearts (former residents of Friendly House), and special events such as our Annual Awards Luncheon and other events. As part of the remodel they added eight new family rooms, bringing the total to 13, with a lounge area complete with a kitchenette and laundry services. She and her children don’t come here very often, Grant said, but times have been especially tough recently. She lost her job a few weeks ago and her young family ran out of food stamps. The parent mentor program is designed for Latina and Black mothers to help fill persistent equity gaps by volunteering in classrooms for 2 hours/day. The Parent  Mentors are supported by weekly training on class-room instructional practices and leadership training.

I was very close to the late Executive Director, Peggy Albrecht, the major reason for my affiliation from 2011 to present. This position has chosen me, equipping my soul with a sense of duty to honor the founders and continue the mission. Women in need should have a safe place to go so that they may find a sense of purpose. Friendly House is a special model where women can get their lives back and become a proud member of society.

If not for those women who came before me I would not be the woman I am today. I’m grateful for this opportunity so serve and give back what was freely given to me. She is passionate about working with those that identify as female and non-binary. Emily had her own struggle with addiction and began working in treatment in 2013 at Beit T’Shuvah where she helped develop their Extended Care Program. She spent two years working for The People Concern with the unhoused population. Her service work connected clients to social services programs, and provided education on harm reduction and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

By 1963, Friendship House of Christian Service had grown to serve nearly 150 families and provide over 23,000 contacts. Our first facility, a Quonset hut donated by Bradley University and dubbed “Operation Friendship House”, generated community excitement and served as both missionary residence and recreation center. The Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service is proud to be a strong non-profit organization in the Greater Peoria Area. We see the need for our programs and services and are excited to see where the future takes us. We offer residential programs for adults that focus on American Indian values and customs. The majority of our program staff have been where you are, and we rely on their knowledge and experience.

Dr. Patrick lockwood grew up in a small southern missouri town, enculturated with classical southern and midwestern values like honesty, integrity, and the “neighborly” way of relating to people. In April of 2021, Christina returned home to the Friendly House to take on the role as Admissions and Business Development Manager. In January of 2022, she became the 4th Executive Director of the Friendly house and is one of the few women of culture to hold an Executive level position in this industry. She has been sober since May 14, 2012, and believes that sobriety is a gift. Heather hopes to help Friendly House expand their footprint and serve more women who are entering sobriety.

Friendship Clubhouse strives to provide a safe, supportive environment that is sensitive to each member’s unique needs. Supports the development of friendships between adults with and without IDD in corporate and civic communities. Many people with IDD have limited opportunities for social interactions after they leave the school environment. This program helps people with IDD become part of mainstream society and creates an inclusive and diverse community for all. Fosters one-to-one friendships between high school students with and without IDD. In this time of heightened social and emotional development that can be difficult even for teenagers without IDD, the Best Buddies High Schools program helps break through social barriers at an important time in a young person’s life.
